Water scarcity is a global issue and Egypt is addressing it: Clean water is as essential for agriculture and industrialization as it is for humans. The global average for water stress is 11% (the average level at which a country withdraws its fresh water from its available resources); however, 31 countries’ water stress level ranges between 25% (the minimum threshold) and 70%. According to a map depicted in the United Nations World Water Development Report in 2019, most of the Arab countries in North Africa and Asia are part of 22 countries that suffer from a severe 70%+ physical water stress.
